Valentine’s Day Collection by Natalie De Luca, student at Toronto Metropolitan University.
The process of creating a captivating Valentine’s Day poster for Design by Nat was fuelled by a blend of inspiration and strategic design choices from course theories. Drawing from my experience and knowledge gained in our second lecture, I set out to craft a poster that would resonate with the TMU community and drive engagement with my business. Inspired by the relevance of posters in today’s communication landscape, I focused on tailoring my message to the local audience at TMU. Recalling my past experiences of selling cookies at the SLC and the creative opportunities it presented, I envisioned leveraging this platform to showcase Design by Nat in a unique and non-food-related manner. The TMU campus, with its vibrant and inclusive environment, served as the perfect backdrop for hanging posters that would catch the attention of students and faculty alike. To ensure maximum impact, I aimed to create a design that featured bold elements, a striking title, and a clear call to action prompting viewers to visit the SLC.
Incorporating the concept of changing forms from our course discussions, I sought to infuse innovative design strategies into the poster. While traditional text and font styles are effective, I wanted to elevate the poster by integrating digital elements such as QR codes. By adding two QR codes, I aimed to provide viewers with direct access to additional information about Design by Nat, fostering a seamless connection between the physical poster and the digital realm. To enhance the visual appeal and evoke a sense of luxury and sophistication, I dived into texture and textual elements introduced in class to craft a captivating title. Through experimentation with various effects using Photoshop’s tools, I transformed the title into a glossy, 3D creation that exuded a shiny plastic material effect. By manipulating lighting properties such as intensity, rotation, height, and softness, I managed to elevate the overall visual impact of the poster, making the title a focal point that captured attention and conveyed a sense of allure.
Overall, the process of designing the Valentine’s Day poster for Design by Nat was a harmonious interplay of inspiration, course theories, and creative exploration. By leveraging the power of innovative design elements, local relevance, and captivating visuals, the poster serves as a compelling invitation for the TMU community to engage with the brand and discover the unique offerings of Design by Nat.
